Ben Lippen notes: The Falcons (7-5) avenged a three-point loss to Orangeburg Prep on the Indians field in the final game of the regular season, by beating OP 23-20 on the road last week in the first round of the SCISA Class 3A playoffs … Ben Lippen had a seemingly comfortable 23-6 lead entering the fourth quarter, but had to hold on as the Tribe pulled within 23-20 with just under six minutes to go … The Falcons got scoring runs from Robert Keen, Xan Mangum and Drew Stokes, and Joey Carter was 14-for-21 passing for 260 yards … Gabe Smith had a big game on defense with 12 tackles and one sack, and Andre Hennie had two interceptions. Mangum’s interception with 1:10 remaining seal OP’s fate … The Falcons won’t need much motivation this week. After all, the Barons eliminated them from the playoffs with ease last season – winning 33-6 in the first round.
Wilson Hall notes: The Barons (6-6) entered last week’s playoff opener against Augusta Christian in Georgia in a major slump – losses in five of their last six regular season games. But Wilson Hall send the once feared Lions packing with a commanding 29-6 win … Ricky Crum ran for 120 yards and four touchdowns. The defense, led by Andrew Harvin (12 tackles), limited AC to a meager 199 total yards … Satisfying? You bet. The Lions beat the Barons in the semifinals a year ago.
