Ridge View finished the 2008 volleyball season with a 13-8 overall record, a 5-5 mark in Region 4-4A matches and a first-round loss in the state playoffs to Fort Mill.
Despite starting off to a strong 8-2 start, we were unable to maintain high enough levels of execution and intensity throughout the season,” said first-year Blazers coach Mary McGraw.
“As a result, we dropped a couple of close five-set games in October, including the season ending playoff game against Fort Mill. But we will return in 2009 with a strong team.”
The Blazers lose only three seniors - team captain Lauren Fink, Vanessa Woods and Shatoya White. Five staters are expected to return, including junior outside hitter Hannah Cox and sophomore middle blocker Keyaira Stevenson, who were the team’s all-region selections.

Junior setter Megan Woodall, junior defensive specialist Ryann Dopp and sophomore right-side hitter Jordan Dopp are the other starters expected to return next season.
On another positive note, junior outside hitter Chanell Rose, after battling back from nearly two years of injuries to both knees, appears to be back in full health as she had her best performance as a Blazer during the final game of the season against Fort Mill, putting down eight kills in the match.
Ridge View rang up 693 kills as a team this season with a hitting percentage of .179. RV also has 286 serving aces, 952 digs and 637 assists.
