The Eau Claire volleyball team turned in a fine performance in 2008 under coach Demetris Smith-Murray. The Shamrocks went 17-4 overall, finished in a tie for second place in Region 4-2A behind Keenan and advanced to the second round of the state playoffs.
“We accomplished a lot of great things this season,” said Murray-Smith. “Even though we are losing five seniors, we are looking forward to next season.”
But while five key players are graduating, 6-foot-2 all-state Janae Stevenson is expected to return to the Shamrocks fold. The imposing hitter/blocker finished with nearly 250 kills this season, as Murray-Smith.
Stevenson and senior Sabrina Johnson were EC’s all-region selections. The rest of the regular rotation featured senior Leigha Tillman, senior Breonda Shannon, junior Shakenia Johnson and junior Brandi Guinyard.
