Spring Valley’s girls baseball team opened the regular season with a rousing 82-38 win at home on Tuesday against previous unbeaten Irmo.
Freshman transfer Asia Dozier poured in 26 points for the Vikings vs. Irmo, and had plenty of support from Briana Robinson (17 points) and Xyline McDaniel (10).
Spring Valley, which plays at South Aiken on Saturday night, opened the season with a break-even showing at the Bank of York tip-off tournament last week. The Vikings beat Mauldin 71-53 in the first game of the two-day event, but then fell 54-50 to host York.
Dozier, who starred at Heathwood Hall as an eighth-grader last season, is averaging 25.6 points and shooting 58% from the field in the early going. McDaniel is averaging 10.7 points and 8.0 rebounds. Robinson is averaging 9.3 points, 3.3 assists and 1.6 steals a game.
