Richland Northeast defeated Blythewood 42-37 on Tuesday, completing a season sweep of the Bengals.
The game was a lot closer than the first meeting due to the inspired play of the Bengals, reported RNE coach Jason Powell. The Cavaliers thumped Blythewood 60-33 in their regular season opener on Dec. 3.
RNE had a great 3rd quarter while stretching its lead to 12 points only to see Blythewood fight back in the late minutes of the game to keep the game close. Malcom Rhett led the way with 11 points, and Rashawn Carroll added 10 to the cause.
The Cavaliers have won five in a row since starting 0-2 in the Tabernacle Thanksgiving Classic in Freeport, Bahamas. While there, they lost to one of the best teams from the Chattanooga area (Brainerd, TN) and to nationally-ranked SCISA powerhouse Pinewood Prep. RNE led Pinewood for the entire game until the final minute.
