Despite having a short lineup, Heathwood Hall still managed to pull off a sixth-place finish with 98.5 points at the Cardinal Newman Christmas Classic wrestling tournament last weekend.
Senior Preston Busbee led the way for the Highlanders by going 3-0 and winning the 112-pound championship, downing Cardinal Newman’s Hunter Richardson in the finals. Busbee, who has two SCISA individual titles and one third-place state finish on his resume, was named the outstanding wrestler at the tournament between the weights of 103 and 140.
Three other Heathwood Hall entries placed.
Junior Charles Gray, the defending SCISA 112-pound champion, finished second at 119 last week, falling to Bishop England’s Derek Geiges, who was the 103 runner-up at last seasons SCHSL Class 2A-1A state individual tournament. Busbee and Gray have switched lineup spots this season.
