The 24th annual Taco Bell Invitational wrestling tournament runs this weekend at Spring Valley. The venerable event is the oldest and one of the largest mat tournaments of the season in the Midlands.
Action begin at 7 p.m. on Friday, with Saturday sessions starting at 8:45 a.m. Spring Valley coach Rob Wells said the championship and consolation finals are tentatively set to begin at 5 p.m.
The 26-team field includes 14 Midlands schools, including host Spring Valley, Dutch Fork, Chapin, Ridge View, Blythewood, Hammond, Heathwood Hall, Dreher, Columbia, Keenan, Lower Richland, A.C. Flora, Gilbert and Swansea.
Woodmont, Beaufort, West Ashley, Charlotte Christian, Bamberg-Ehrhardt, Nation Ford, North Charleston, Swain County (NC), Mauldin, Veritas Sports Academy (NC), Myrtle Beach and Georgetown round out the field.
Dutch Fork (No. 4, 4A), Chapin (No. 6, 3A), Gilbert (No. 4, 2A), Hammond (No. 1, SCISA), Heathwood Hall (No. 3, SCISA) are the Top 10 ranked entries.
