Ben Lippen boys enter tournament phase

It’s tournament time for the Ben Lippen boys basketball team.

The Falcons, off this week for exams, will be in Hilton Head today for the four-team RET Thomas Memorial Holiday tournament at Hilton Head Prep. Ben Lippen (3-2) opened tonight at 8 p.m. against the host Dolphins. The championship and consolation finals will be on Saturday.

After Christmas, the Falcons are entered in the District 9 Officials tournament in Sumter. BL will have five games in four days at the event – facing tough public school teams Crestwood and Lee Central (on Dec. 26), Manning and East Clarendon (on Dec. 27), in addition to one more place game on Dec. 29.

After the holidays, Ben Lippen hosts is annual New Year’s Blast. The Falcons play Hilton Head Christian on Jan. 2 and Trinity Collegiate on Jan. 3.

Mitchell Deter leads the Falcons scoring parade with a 17.8 average, followed by Andre Hennie at 15.0 ppg. Deter also leads the club in assists (3.0), while Hennie is tops in steals (3.8 spg) and second in rebounding (6.0 rpg). Gabe Smith is the top Falcon on the boards with a 6.6 rebound average.
