Irmo’s wrestling team had a rather demanding stretch just prior to Christmas, entering two tournaments. The Yellow Jackets finished seventh in the Beef O’Brady’s Invitational in Fort Mill over the weekend, then placed 18th at the large Tiger Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C., which ran on Monday and Tuesday.
Kyle Manross was Irmo’s individual standout, winning the 125-pound championship in Fort Mill and finishing second in Chapel Hill to a wrestler from New Jersey. Devin Gosnell and Jimmy Carson also placed at both tournaments. Gosnell was fifth at 160 in Chapel Hill, and third in Fort Mill. Carson was the heavyweight runner-up in Fort Mill, and finished fourth in Chapel Hill.
Blane Bryant had a fourth-place finish at 140 in Fort Mill.
