Viking girls breeze to ninth straight win

The Spring Valley girls basketball team blitzed visiting Sumter 66-33 on Tuesday night. It was the ninth straight win for the 10-1 Vikings, who have one final tune-up tonight at home against Brookland-Cayce. SV opens Region 4-4A play Friday at Blythewood.

The Vikings stormed out to a 26-12 lead by the end of the first quarter, and were on cruise control the rest of the way.

Freshman Asia Dozier led all scorers with 21 points, and went 4-for-7 from 3-point range. The Vikings shot 50% as a team from the field (22-for-44), and cashed in 14 of 20 free-throw attempts.

Briana Robinson had a fine performance –10 points, eight assists and three steals. Xylina McDaniel finished with 12 points and six boards. Shaquita Walker scored only two points, but matched Robinson with eight assists.
