Lexington took over sole possession of first place in Region 5-4A boys basketball on Tuesday night with a 60-52 road win at Orangeburg-Wilkinson. Justin Mills scored 21 points to lead the way for the Wildcats, who improved to 12-2 overall, 3-0 in region play.
The Wildcats trailed 35-25 at halftime, but regained control with a 21-6 eruption in the third quarter. Mills and low post counterpart Matt Jergenson accounted for all of Lexington’s third-quarter points.
Meanwhile, Irmo suffered its first region setback of the season at North Augusta. The host Yellow Jackets broke open a tight battle with a 26-16 burst in the fourth quarter. Robbie Brunson led Irmo with 16 points, and Josh Clinkscales scored 10.
In other region outings, Dutch Fork crushed White Knoll 61-40 and Richland Northeast suffered a 57-47 upset loss at Aiken. It was the first region win for the host Green Hornets.

E.J. Mills fired in 21 points and Byron Jones added 13 for Dutch Fork. A slow start doomed RNE. The Cavalier scored just nine points in the first half, and just two points in the second quarter. Daris Crosby was the only consistent RNE producer with 22 points.
