CAJ boys stay put atop Region 4-1A standings

C.A. Johnson kept pace with Hunter-Kinard-Tyler and North atop the Region 4-1A basketball standings thanks to a 73-45 win at Wagener-Salley on Tuesday.

Terell Magazine, the Hornets’ 6-foot-8 junior center, led a balanced CAJ scoring effort with 19 points. He had plenty of support from Dayton Whitmore (15 points), Davon Dash (10) and point guard Antonio Brown (10).

The Hornets will get their first serious region challenge on Friday when the North Eagles roll into town. Devonte James and Ryan Jenkins are Eagle stars. James, who is averaging 20.2 points, 6.1 assists and 4.9 steals, had 24 points and 10 assists in North’s 85-50 win over Fox Creek on Tuesday. Jenkins, who is averaging 15.0 points, 8.7 assists and 3.1 steals, had 17 points against Fox Creek.

The CAJ girls fell out of a tie for first place on Tuesday, dropping a 41-35 decision to Wagener-Salley. Whitney Green scored 19 points for the Hornets.
