Dutch Fork ripped White Knoll 61-28 on Tuesday to maintain sole possession of first place in Region 5-4A girls basketball.
The Silver Foxes (7-3, 3-0) rolled even though leading scorer Devin Pearson had an off night with just six points. No problem. Senior Shyianne Oakman and eighth-grader Alaina Coates, DF’s twin 6-foot-4 centers, combined for 28 points. Oakman came away for a game-high 19 points. Coates chipped in nine points, and Erin Houston added eight. In all, 10 DF players scored points.
In other region games, Irmo, Aiken and Orangeburg-Wilkinson stay one game off the Silver Foxes pace. Irmo scored a 53-42 road win at North Augusta, O-W humbled Lexington 57-36 and Aiken cruised to a 58-7 win at home against Richland Northeast.
Irmo bounced back nicely from a tough 54-53 loss to Ridge View on Jan. 3. Balanced scoring was the key for the Yellow Jackets vs. NA. Caitlin Vaughn was the nominal scoring leader with 12 points. Sarah Green and Brooke McCants tallied 11 points apiece and Brianna Stanton added 10 the cause. The Jackets jumped out to a 12-3 advantage in the first quarter and led 32-15 at the half.
Aiken enjoyed a 35-2 halftime lead against RNEl after a 19-0 burst in the second quarter.
O-W dominated the boards in its easy win over Lexington. Erika Sumpter had 14 points and 12 rebounds and Shameka Daniels had eight points and 11 rebounds for the Bruins. Molly VanWyk and Alli Edens shared scoring honors for the Wildcats with nine points apiece.
