Dutch Fork stayed one game ahead of Irmo in the Region 5-4A girls basketball standings on Tuesday, thanks to a 47-28 road win at Lexington. Irmo stayed within hailing distance of the Silver Foxes with a 45-30 win against White Knoll.
DF (9-3, 5-0) had little trouble with the Wildcats (6-8, 1-4), even though leading scorer Devin Pearson managed only three points in the game. Eighth-grader center Alaina Coates paced the Silver Foxes with 14 points, Shyianne Oakman scored 11 and Donnesha Shuler added 10.
Pearson saw her conference scoring average drop to 12.0 ppg. Coates raised her reging average to 11.0 ppg, and Oakman is at 10.8 ppg. Senior Erin Houston was right at her region scoring average (8.6) with nine points vs. Lexington. Shuler had 21 points in the first four region outings.
Brooke McCants led the Irmo scoring parade against White Knoll with 14 points, and had 11-point backing from Briana Stanton and center Sarah Green.

The Yellow Jackets (11-4, 4-1) now find themselves in sole possession of second place, thanks to Orangeburg-Wilkinson’s 53-49 win at Aiken on Tuesday.
