Ben Lippen boys rally past Cardinals, end three-game slide

Ben Lippen’s boys basketball team rallied in the fourth quarter to hand visiting Cardinal Newman a 56-51 setback in SCISA Region 2-3A play.

The Falcons (8-8, 1-1) sprinted past the Cardinals with a 19-12 burst in the final eight minutes of the game to end a three-game losing skid. Mitchell Deter led the way with 16 points and four steals, and had nice support from Zach Burnett (13 points, 3 assists). Deter canned three of BL’s eight 3-point field goals.

Zach Hrovat and Jake Motto scored 16 and 15 points, respectively, for the Cardinals (10-5, 1-1).

CN was a 55-49 overtime winner in the girls game. Freshman Molly Rainwater posted 20 points for the winning Cardinals (8-5, 2-0). Alex August backed Rainwater with 13 points, while Tori August, Beth Eckstein combined for 13 points.

Elizabeth Hodges tallied 13 points and Sarah Yeakel scored 10 for the Falcons (4-10, 0-2).
