Eau Claire swept Columbia on Tuesday in the first region basketball meeting of the schools in 27 years. The last time the Shamrocks and Capitals clashed in conference play was in 1982 when both were members of Region 4-4A.
The EC girls improved to 13-2 with a 47-37 win, and kept pace with Keenan and Lee Central at the top of the Region 4-2A standings.
Janae Stevenson led the way with 12 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks. The junior center had plenty of aide from teammates Breonda Shannon (9 points, 13 rebounds), Amelia Carrie (9 points), Eboni Ross (8 points, 11 boards, 2 blocks) and Shakenia Johnson (7 points).
Willy Perlotte rang up 16 points, Ronnie Green tallied 13 and Wayne Henderson added 10 and the EC boys secured a tight 47-44 against the struggling Capitals. Sterling Rose topped Columbia with 12 points.
