Brookland-Cayce and Airport kept pace at the top of the Region 5-3A girls basketball standings with home wins on Friday.
B-C (5-9 overall) handed Dreher its first region loss, 52-46, behind the scoring of freshman Taylor Vinson and sophomore Asia Benn. Vinson poured in a game-high 22 points, while Benn posted 13. Tequila McNeal led the Blue Devils with 16 points, Sheikane Smith scored 12, Emily Newton added 10.
The Bearcats, who have won four of their last five games, have had remarkably balanced contributions in region games from their big guns. Vinson is averaging 13.3 ppg, Benn is at 13.7 ppg and senior Shanique Brown stands at 13.0 ppg.
Airport roughed up visiting South Aiken 51-25. Jessica Ellison fired in 17 points and Shardane Harris 11 added 11 for the Eagles (7-9 overall), who were mired in a five-game losing streak entering the region campaign.
