Swansea hosts Dreher Friday in a key Region 5-3A boys basketball game. The Blue Devils are currently in first place with a 3-0 region record, one half game in front of the 3-1 Tigers.
Swansea gained ground on Dreher with a 63-54 road win Wednesday at South Aiken as the only region team in action. The game was postponed on Tuesday because of the winter weather that closed schools in the Midlands. The rest of the conference will catch up on Tuesday, Jan. 27.
The Tigers (9-5 overall) broke open a tight game with a 24-17 burst in the fourth quarter. Trenton Green, Damien Johnson and Kyndon Smith were the key figures in the Swansea victory. Green had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, and went 7-for-8 from the field. Johnson rang up 15 points and eight boards, and also had a hot shooting night – going 3-for-4 from the field with one 3-pointers, 8-for-8 at the free-throw line. Smith had 14 points, shooting 4-for-6 from 3-point range.
In all, Swansea shot a torrid 63% from the field (22-for-37) and was 13-for-17 at the line.

Dreher (10-5) brings a balanced attack to the showdown, featuring junior Dominic Boyd, junior Chris Brown, senior Dominique Nathaniel and sophomore Quayshun Hawkins. The Blue Devils entered region play mired in a three-game losing streak, but have righted the ship with consecutive conquests of South Aiken, Midland Valley and Brookland-Cayce.
