In familiar fashion, Spring Valley raced to a command lead in the first quarter and cruised to an 84-41 Region 4-4A girls basketball win against visiting Rock Hill on Friday night.
It was the 15th straight win for the Vikings, who stand at 16-1 overall, 4-0 in region play.
Spring Valley rang up 31 points in the opening eight minutes against the Bearcats and spent the rest of the night padding stats. Freshmen Xylina McDaniel and Asia Dozier were the 1-2 punch again. McDaniel tallied 20 points with seven rebounds and five assists. Dozier scored 18 points, shared team rebounding honors with McDaniel and also had six assists and three steals.
Shaquita Walker, Briana Robinson and Savonia Bryan played nice complimentary roles. Walker had eight points and a team-high six steals, Robinson contributed five points, three assists and three steal and Bryan chipped in nine points and six rebounds.
In the nightcap, Ronald Zimmerman erupted for 37 points to lead Spring Valley to a 79-72 overtime win. Jamil Jones and Trey Duncan offered double-digit scoring support with 15 and 10 points, respectively.
The win allowed the Vikings (8-4 overall) to keep pace with South Pointe at the top of the standings at 3-1. South Points smoked Ridge View 83-57 on Friday.
Elsewhere on Friday, Blythewood swept visiting Lancaster. The Bengal boys (5-10) downed the Bruins 59-45 as Tevin Lowry scored 17 points and Dominique Perry posted 14. In the opener, the Blythewood girls (10-7) prevailed 52-37 behind the scoring punch of Ashleigh Edwards (17 points), Kyayria Gadsden (12) and Lashonda Canty (10).
Both Blythewood teams got their first region wins on Thursday against Rock Hill.
Ridge View hosts Lancaster on Saturday with the girls starting at 2 p.m. followed by the boys at 3:30 p.m. The Blazer girls dropped a 37-32 decision on Friday to South Pointe.
