Airport took sole possession of first place in Region 5-3A basketball with a 55-43 win Friday at home. The Eagles evened their overall record at 8-8, and moved to 4-0 in region matters.
Jessica Ellison paced Airport with 23 points, raising her region scoring average to 19.0 ppg. Leanna Richardson backed Ellison with 13 points – her first double-digit outing in region play. Richardson now is averaging 8.5 ppg in conference action.
Freshman Taylor Vinson topped B-C (5-10, 3-1) with 12 points, and Corteastia Taylor scored 10.
The Bearcats dropped back into a tie for second-place with Dreher, which hung a 74-64 loss on Swansea last night. Tequila McNeal exploded with 34 points, and Shekiena Smith tallied 16 in the big Blue Devils win. Shanae Zeigler scored 27 points for the Tigers.

While the girls were slugging it out for first place, the prize in the nightcap was escaping the region basement. Airport made it a clean sweep on the night, ripping the defending region champion Bearcats 65-50.
Scoring balanced was the key for the Eagles (9-10, 1-3). Josh Gordon led the way with 17 points, followed by Sting Williams (14), Jared Brown (13) and Jonathan Jenkins (12). Jonathan Rumph and Jake Benton both tallied 15 points for B-C, which fell to 6-9, 0-4.
