Willson Hall squares off against Florence Christian for first place in SCISA 3-3A

Wilson Hall closes out the first half of the SCISA Region 3-3A basketball campaign with a doubleheader Tuesday at home against Florence Christian.

Both Barons squads enter the first-half finale with 3-0 region records. The WH girls shouldn’t have too much trouble against the Eagles, who are 0-3 in conference matters, but the boys game is a showdown for the top spot in the standings.

FC improved to 11-4 overall, 3-0 in region play with a 79-52 rout of last-place Robert E. Lee on Friday. Jordan Washington led a parade of four dougle-digit Eagles scorers with 18 points.

Wilson Hall’s boys (12-3 overall) have been on cruise control in region play this far. Friday’s 53-42 win vs. Laurence Manning Academy was the closest of the three verdict. LMA took its first lead of the game (26-24) two minutes into the second half, but the Barons answered with a 3-pointer by Reid Schwartz, and another bonus bomb by teammate Josh Glenn a few minutes later staked WH to 32-29 lead that it would never relinquish again.

Junior Wesley Talley was the Barons scoring leader with 12 points, and senior George James finished with 10.

The Barons girls, 13-2 overall, are led by senior center Kendall Painter, who is averaging 13.2 points and 10.5 rebounds a game. Painter tallied 12 points and had 15 boards in a 44-37 win over Orangeburg Prep in the region opener. Her string of four double-doubles in a row came to an end on Friday in a 55-36 win over Laurence Manning Academy when she finished with five points and eight rebounds.

Wilson Hall’s rematch with OP will be Friday on the road.

The Wilson Hall girls are ranked No. 2 in SCISA Class 3A, while the boys team is No. 6.
