Dreher’s girls basketball team makes a bid for a share of first place in Region 5-3A Tuesday when front-running Airport pays a visit in the final game of the conference first-half schedule.
The visiting Eagles (8-9, 4-0) took over sole possession of the top spot on the standings after scoring a 55-43 win over Brookland-Cayce on Friday. The Blue Devils sped by Swansea 74-64 on Friday to improve to 3-1 in region matters. The lone Dreher loss was to B-C on Jan. 16.
Jessica Ellison led Airport past B-C with 23 points, raising her region scoring average to 19.0 ppg. Tequila McNeal had the big number for Dreher vs. Swansea – scoring a cereer-high 34 points.
In the nightcap, the Dreher boys (12-5, 4-0) take on an Airport team that beat Brookland-Cayce on Friday for its first region win. The Blue Devils, meanwhile, needed a 14-3 run down the stretch to knock off Swansea and maintain its first-place standing.

Dreher did a lot of things right in the second half at Swansea. Quayshun Hawkins scored 18 of his team-high 20 points after the break, the Blue Devils went 18-for-21 at the free-throw line and 6-for-9 from 3-point distance after the break.
In Tuesday’s other make-up doubleheader, Brookland-Cayce hosts Midland Valley.
