White Knoll closed the regular season with a 16-9 overall dual match record, and a 4-2, third-place showing in Region 5-4A. Friday, the Timberwolves go about the business of qualifying individuals to the Lower State meet at the region tournament hosted by Dutch Fork.
“We've had an interesting year,” said first-year WK coach Kevin Emily. “I have challenged the guys to stay hungry and to not be satisfied until their goals are achieved. They have answered the bell and gave some of the best teams in the state a little bit of a scare. An example of that is our one-point loss to Fort Mill. They have gone from the uncertainty of the expectations of a new coach to the belief that they can beat anybody.
“One kid who has completely immersed himself into my philosophy is Brandon Proveaux. He has gone from not being ranked at all in the pre-season to the No. 1 spot (at 215). Shane Lee is coming on strong after nearly a month off due to injury. Skylar Walker is also having an impressive season with 33 wins on the year.”
Five individual Lower State invitations are up for grabs in each weight class.
