Timberwolves upset defending state wrestling champion Summerville

White Knoll pulled off a stunning 33-32 upset win over mighty Summerville in the first round of the Class 4A state wrestling playoffs on Monday. It was only the second first-round playoff loss for the 12-time state champion Green Wave since the dual-match playoff format was instituted in 1993.

The Timberwolves (17-9) received pins from Skylar Walker at 125, Zach Dicus at 135, Patrick Speers at 160 and Brandon Proveaux at 215.

White Knoll moves on to a second-round match Wednesday at Sumter.

Dutch Fork and Lexington also advanced to the second round of the Class 4A state wrestling playoffs with Monday wins.

Region 5-4A champion Dutch Fork handed West Ashley 51-20 at home, while Lexington, the 5-4A runner-up breezed by Beaufort 73-6. Dutch Fork hosts Wando on Wednesday, while Lexington heads to the Lowcountry to take on Region 7-4A champion Stratford.
