It wasn’t quite a storybook ending, but Camden secured the outright Region 6-3A boys basketball championship on Tuesday night. The Bulldogs, who wrapped up the region’s No. 1 state playoff seed with a win over Marlboro County last Friday, dropped a 71-62 decision to Darlington in the regular season finale. The good new is Crestwood’s 64-54 win on Tuesday vs. second-place Wilson allowed Camden to finish alone at the top of the standings.
Jay Council tallied 20 points for the Bulldogs, which closed the regular season 19-2 overall, 8-2 in region matters. Both Camden setbacks to date have come against Darlington.
Camden has a week to get ready for its Class 3A state playoff opener at home against the No. 4 seed from Region 7 on Feb. 17.
