Ridge View travels to Blythewood on Friday night with the goal of securing the outright Region 4-4A boys basketball championship.
The Blazers (9-13 overall, 7-2 in region play) have a one-game lead over South Pointe and Spring Valley entering the finale. Spring Valley is no eligible for a region title or a state playoff berth because of a preseason practice violation. RV put matters into its own hands by beating South Pointe 63-62 on Tuesday.
John Combs’ team got off to a dreadful start this season against some stiff competition, winning only three of its first 16 games. But since a 83-57 drubbing at the hands of South Pointe in Rock Hill on Jan. 23, the Blazers have won six in a row behind the play of Jarvis Davis, Jamar Gillespie and Mike Green. Davis’ last-second shots made the difference in stretch-run wins against Spring Valley and South Pointe.
Blythewood (5-15, 2-7) enters the game tied for fifth place with Rock Hill. Either the Bengals and or the Bearcats will nab the region's fourth and final playoff spot with Spring Valley out of the equation. Rock Hill plays at South Pointe tonight.

On the girls side, Spring Valley goes for its 21st straight win and a perfect 10-0 region report card tonight at home against Lancaster. Ridge View (14-5, 6-3) and South Pointe are tied for second place, but have playoff invitations locked up. Blythewood (12-10, 4-5) is also in as the No. 4 seed, no matter what happens tonight against Ridge View. The Bengals gained playoff status by beating Lancaster 58-32 on Tuesday.
