Orangeburg-Wilkinson has been designated as the No. 1 Class 4A state girls basketball playoff seed out of Region 5-4A. O-W and Dutch Fork finished as co-champions with 12-2 conference records, thanks to the Silver Foxes’ surprisingly lopsided loss to Irmo on Friday night.
The Bruins tie-breaking advantage turned out to be a sweep of third-place Irmo.
O-W and Dutch Fork rate first-round home games on Tuesday. In order, Irmo, Aiken and North Augusta line up behind the top two seeds, and all three have road games on Tuesday.
Lexington, White Knoll and Richland Northeast missed the state cut. Lexington, however, defeated White Knoll 52-47 in Friday’s regular season finale, allowing the Wildcats to catch the Timberwolves in the final league standings. Molly VanWyk scored 23 points in the Lexington win.
