Dudley's second-half rush nets 4th place finish at state

Irmo freshman T.J. Dudley capped a strong finish this season by placing fourth at 171 pounds at the Class 4A state tournament last weekend at Lexington.

Dudley closed with a 36-14 season record, but he lost only four times after the Christmas break.

Senior Jimmy Carson make the state cut for the third year in a row, but went 0-2 and failed to place at heavyweight after finished second in 2008.

“We had a tough year but we definitely learned a lot about ourselves,” said Irmo coach Kyle Kimrey. “ I think our wrestlers are ready to work hard to improve. We have a lot of them coming back next year that hate to lose and love to win, so I have a good feeling going into this off-season.”

The top returning Yellow Jackets expected to return are Kyle Manross (43-6 this season), Devin Gosnell (41-12), Blane Bryant (34-13), Kashif Kram and Daniel Mecca.
