Watson fans 15 in Sumter's 6-4A softball win

Sophomore Sutton Watson pitched Sumter to a 5-0 win over West Florence on Thursday in the Region 6-4A softball opener for both teams.

Watson allowed the host Knights just three hits and struck out 15 WF batters on the way to improving to 2-1 on the season. On the offensive side, Watson had two RBIs. Newcomer Emily Whitsel also had a two-run hit for the Gamecocks.

Watson was 3-8 last season as a freshman, striking out 90 in 70 innings of work. On Tuesday, Watson fanned 15 and allowed only two hits, but was a 1-0 loser against East Clarendon. The game pitted Sumter coach Warren Coker against his mother Judy Coker, who is the EC coach.
