Spring Valley netters off to 3-0 start

Spring Valley is off to another great start in boys tennis, scoring three straight 6-0 victories.

The Vikings went 13-3 last season, won a region championship with a perfect 6-0 conference mark and advanced to the Class 4A Lower State championship match before falling to eventual state champion West Florence.

Five starters return from the 2008 lineup, including senior Ashkon Babaee, eighth-grader Brent Lett, sophomore Kenan Sakarcan, senior Joe Cunningham and sophomore Trey Finch.

Babaee remains at the No. 1 singles position and is off to a 2-0 start. Lett moves up from No. 3 singles to the No. 2 spot this spring, and is 3-0 to date with one win at No. 1 singles when Babaee was out of the lineup. Sakarcan is back in his familiar No. 4 singles position, and stands at 3-0. Cunningham and Finch are teamed up at doubles. Cunningham was a double starter last season, while Finch was the regular at No. 5 singles.

The newcomers are Hampton Drake at No. 3 singles and Conner Burke at No. 5. Both are off to 3-0 starts.

Spring Valley moves to Region 4-4A and the Upper State this season.
