Spring Valley kept pace with Ridge View atop the Region 4-4A baseball standings with a wild, 8-6 win on Tuesday at Blythewood.
The Vikings (4-3, 2-0) took the lead for good in the see-saw battle between school district rivals in the top of the fifth inning when Jake Zokan ripped a bases-loaded triple. Jared Keels saved the game in relief, coming on in the seventh inning to retire three Bengals in succession after Blythewood put runners on first and second base with no outs.
Casey Cooper was the winning pitcher. Kevin Hastings, Jeremiah Jackson, and Cooper all had two hits for the Vikings.
Spring Valley travels to Ridge View on Friday night with sole possession of first place in 4-4A on the line.
