Ridge View assumes first place in 4-4A baseball race

Ridge View assumed the top spot in the Region 4-4A baseball standings with a 5-3 win Friday at home against Spring Valley.

The Blazers put together a decisive four-run rally in the bottom of the fifth inning to wipe out a 2-1 Vikings advantage. Richard Crisostomo got things going with a one-out single, and he eventually scored to tie it up at 2-2 on a SV error on a ball put into play by Hughston Armstrong. After Andrew Hill drew a walk, Julio Iglesias ripped a double off the center field fence to plate Armstrong with the go-ahead run. Blake Clamp then delivered what turned out to be the game-winning blow - a two-run single to center, scoring Hill and Iglesias.

Crisostomo had a big game for the Blazers, going 2-2 with two RBIs, and picking up a save. The senior right-hander got the final two outs of the game after RV starter Scott Baldwin tired in the seventh. Baldwin picked up the decision, allowing one earned run and five hits in 6.1 innings of work. He also had seven strikeouts.

Ridge View stands at 5-2 overall, 3-0 in the region, and hosts Lancaster on Tuesday in its next 4-4A outing.
