Chapin, Camden still unbeaten on the courts

Chapin and Camden, the Class 3A boys tennis powers in the Midlands, remained unbeaten with wins on Monday.

Chapin improved to 4-0 by securing a tight 4-3 boys tennis decision Monday against Class 4A Dutch Fork. The Eagles, ranked No. 6 in 3A, pulled out a victory thanks to a win by the No. 1 doubles team of sophomore Kyle Koch and Alex Wallace.

Koch and Wallace rallied to down the top DF duo of Austin Williams and Neil Anderson, after losing the first set – 6-7, 6-2, 10-5. The teams’ top two singles played split in heat-to-head confrontations. Koch improved to 4-0 with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Williams at No. 1 singles. Anderson handed Wallace is his loss of the season, 6-3, 6-4.

Chapin’s other singles wins came from Robert Hinson at No. 4 and Sean McCawley at No. 5. Hinson is 4-0 for the season, while McCawley stands at 3-1. Griffin Markland handed Chapin’s Jeffrey Koch his first singles setback of the spring at No. 3.

Zach Pensa and Dylan Potter prevailed 6-3, 5-7, 10-5 in another hotly contested doubles match against Chapin’s Sean Koch and Zach Woodham to require a match resolution at No. 1 doubles.

Camden upped its record to 5-0 with Monday’s 6-1 win against Dreher. The Blue Devils only success came at No. 2 doubles where Neil Yaznik and Luke Pincelli topped the Camden team of Rush Morris and Hunt Jones.

Otherwise, it was an all-Bulldogs show. Josh Cook, Cauthen Tiller, JoJo Tiller, Will Kornagey and Andrew Koutrolakis provided singles wins. Cook and JoJo Tiller are both 5-0 to date, Kornagey is 4-0 and Koutrolakis is 2-1 in singles and 2-0 in doubles.
