Armstrong slam allows Blazers to keep 4-4A baseball top spot

Ridge View maintained its position at the top of the Region 4-4A baseball standings with a 5-2 win Tuesday against Rock Hill. The Blazers' next region outing is Friday at South Pointe. RV boasts a 4-0 region record and has a one-game edge over Spring Valley, which blasted South Pointe 16-3 on Tuesday.

Andrew Hill worked six strong innings to pick up the decision mound decision, and Hughston Armstrong delivered the big blow of the game – a grand slam home run in the fifth inning to break open a close game.

Hill is now 2-0 with a 0.82 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 17 innings of work. Scotty Baldwin has also pitched well. He sports a 3-0 record with one save and a 1.02 ERA.

Armstrong is swinging a hot bat for the Blazers. He sports a .457 batting average and a 1.057 OPS with 11 runs scored and eight RBIs. The grand slam last night was his first homer of the season.

Blake Clamp, Hill and Julio Iglesias have been major offensive contributors, as well. Clamp is hitting .384 with a 1.139 OPS, Hill has a .321 batting average and Iglesias is hitting .320 with a team-high 10 RBIs. Tony Price is hitting just .214, but he has eight RBIs and leads the club with two home runs.
