SPRING VALLEY - The rebuilding Vikings got off to a fine 3-0-1 start, but have since dropped back-to-back one-goal Region 4-4A decisions to Ridge View and South Point … Talk about living on the edge, every Vikings match has been a nail biter – a 0-0 draw against Greenwood in the preseason Lake Murray Classic followed by five consecutive one-game decisions (three have which have gone either to overtime or shootouts for a resolution). Two of the wins have come against Lexington (3-2) and Dutch Fork (2-1) – clubs, like Spring Valley, that are trying to find their way with a lot of new faces … Given the competitive state of Region 4-4A in the early going, Spring Valley is still very much in contention for the championship if it can soon right itself … Nick Aizcorbe’s two goals leads the team in the early going. Ashkon Babaee, who is a standout on the SV tennis team, has one goal on the books when he is in soccer mode.

LEXINGTON - The young Wildcats are off to a 6-2 start overall, and 3-0 in Region 5-4A. Lexington is ranked No. 6 in Class 4A, and will square off against unbeaten, second-ranked Irmo on Friday night in a telling match … The Wildcats have posted four straight shutout wins since dropping a 3-2 shootout decision to Spring Valley. Senior keeper Bradley Moore has pitched a shutout in every Lexington win this season … Sophomore Ryan Freiburger has been the big gun in the attack with eight goals. Freiburger has two-goal outings against Spring Valley and Richland Northeast, and took care of all the scoring in a tough 1-0 region win vs. Aiken. Otherwise, junior forward Blake Sox has six goals on the books, while senior forward Rhett Park has scored three goals.

DUTCH FORK - The Silver Foxes are 4-2 with setbacks against Spring Valley (3-2) and on-the-rise White Knoll. DF is 2-1 in tough Region 5-4A play … Isiah Etheredge has been the team’s most consistent offensive threat, scoring eight goals. His seven-game scoring streak came to an end in Tuesday’s 3-0 loss to White Knoll. Etheredge opened the season with back-to-back two-goal games in wins over Socastee (5-4) and neighboring Chapin in a Superintendent’s Cup match … Tyler Vincent and Michael Klawer both have three goals. Vincent had the hat trick in a 9-0 region rout of Orangeburg-Wilkinson, while Klawer found the back of the net twice in a 3-0 region win over North Augusta ... Keeper Miles Kendrick has two shutouts to date.

McEwan has two – scoring three goals against Emerald and Sumter. Three of the hats surfaced in the Sumter match, courtesy of McEwan, Morgan and Varney. Acree donned the other hat against Orangeburg-Wilkinson … Irmo hosts sixth-ranked Lexington on Friday and travels to meet upstart, ninth-ranked White Knoll on Tuesday.
