Notebook: 4A girls soccer

DUTCH FORK - The third-ranked Silver Foxes are rolling along at 6-0, and are along in first place in tough Region 5-4A with a 4-0 mark … DF handed upstart White Knoll it’s first loss of the season on Tuesday by a 1-0 count, courtesy of a goal by Stephanie Gauthier and the defense in front of keeper Katie Wallace, who has five shuouts and allowed just one goal to date … The Silver Foxes, however, have yet to 12th ranked Lexington, 11th ranked Aiken and fourth ranked Irmo … Those three matches are next on the schedule, though Friday’s outing vs. Lexington is in jeopardy because of the weather. DF travels to Aiken on April 3, and is off until its hosts Irmo on April 14 … Sam Vickers and Sarah Haacker lead the Foxes with four goals apiece, while Gauthier has three in the books.

IRMO - The fourth-ranked Yellow Jackets (5-1 overall, 2-1 in Region 5-4A) dropped their first decision of the season on Tuesday – a 2-1 decision at North Augusta … Up to that point, keeper Taylor Kelly and the Irmo defense had yielded just two goals … Amy Dherckers and Bianca Warder have been the top offensive threats so far. Dherckers leads the team with nine goals, while Warder has seven tallies. The hot shots both had hat tricks in a 16-0 romp against Orangeburg-Wilkinson, and Dherckers had another three spot in a season-opening 3-0 win vs. Dreher in the weather-aborted Viking Cup preseason tournament … Dherckers, Warder and Danielle Werdunn had the goals in a 3-1 win over Spring Valley in the annual Ashley Nicole Dent Memorial game on March 10.

LEXINGTON - The rebuilding Wildcats (4-5 overall, 2-1 in Region 5-4A) rebounded from a tough three-match set at a tournament host by Fort Mill with a 6-0 win over Orangeburg-Wilkinson on Tuesday. Taylor Piorkowski scored four goals and Hilary Daly scored twice … Scoring goals, however, has been a problem so far this spring. Lexington went 0-3 and did not score a goal at the Fort Mill tourney, has been blanked four times and was held to one goal in its other loss – an overtime decision vs. Dorman … Piorkowski and Daly have accounted for 11 of the team’s 14 goals – Piorkowski has six scores, Daly five. Daly’s goal have come in two matches. She had a hat trick in a 3-0 season-opening win against Blythewood at the Viking Cup.

SPRING VALLEY - After getting off to a 0-2-1 start, the rebuilding Vikings have turns things around in Region 4-4A play. Spring Valley has won two of its three region outings to date … The reversal of fortunes began with a 1-0 shootout win over Blythewood, followed by bitter 2-1 loss to Ridge View and a bounce-back 8-0 success vs. South Pointe … Amanda Herring’s decisive PK tally in the shootout was difference against Blythewood, and transfer keeper Amy Kolowski made that advantage stand up … Striker Molly Davis accounted for the lone SV goal against Ridge View and added a hat trick in the romp vs. South Pointe.

BLYTHEWOOD - Blythewood is playing well in its first season at the 4A level. After dropping its first two outings of the season without scoring a goal, the Bengals have gone on a roll – winning five of six … The lone blemish during the surge was a 1-0 shootout loss to Spring Valley … Blythewood is 2-1 in Region 4-4A, and has a huge match with first-place Ridge View on Tuesday … The Bengals bounced back from the tough loss to Spring Valley to beat South Pointe (8-0) and Rock Hill (2-1) in region matters. Brittany Moorers and Michelle Ray tallied two goals apiece in the South Pointe laugher, while Aubrey Marini and Alexis Allen had the scores vs. Rock Hill … Moorers tops all BHS shooters with five goals.

RIDGE VIEW - The rising Blazers have won five in a row in the wake of a 1-0 loss to highly regarded Dutch Fork in the preseason Viking Cup tournament. The run features Region 4-4A wins overRock Hill (5-2), Spring Valley (2-1) and Lancaster (8-0) … Ashley Tanner, Cheryl Jennings and Carolina McCloskey pace RV’s balanced scoring attack. McCloskey provided the individual highlight to date with a hat trick in the region--opening win vs. Rock Hill … Keeper Tiffany Johnson has surrendered only four goals to date.
