Eagles nip Irmo in first-ever tennis confrontation

Chapin’s boys tennis team completed a season sweep of Class 4A school district rivals by beating Irmo 4-3 on Monday in the first-ever meeting of the neighboring schools on the courts. Last week, the Eagles defeated Dutch Fork by the same 4-3 count.

The win pushed the 3A Eagles’ record to 6-0 this season.

Kyle Koch (No. 1), and Sean McCawley (No. 4) came through with singles wins, but the verdict came down to a doubles sweep by two Chapin duos – Koch and Alex Wallace and Sean Koch and Andrew Hill.

Kyle Koch, who is ranked No. 1 by the SCJTA in the 16 age group, improved to 6-0 in singles, 2-0 in doubles. He is the lone undefeated singles man left in the lineup. McCawley and Robert Hinson (No. 4) both stand at 5-1. Alex Wallace (No. 2) and Jeffrey Koch (No. 3) both at 5-2. The Sean Koch-Hill doubles team is 3-0.

Irmo (5-2) got singles wins from Paul Reed (No. 2), Britton Bent (No. 3) and Jasdeep Guram (No. 4).
