Cardinals sweep Hammond to stay put in first place

Cardinal Newman scored a SCISA Region 1-3A soccer sweep of Hammond on Friday night.

Zach Hrovat, Gabe Roldan and Mike Beaudoin took care of the scoring for the Cards, and keeper Timmy Cunningham pick up the win in the nets, surrendering only one tally to Hammond’s Breaden Troyer. Roldan and Beaudoin have paced the balanced CN attack all season. Roldan has nine goals, Beaudoin eight.

Alexa Barnes and Julie Davies found the back of the net for the CN girls (5-2, 4-0) and Molly Rainwater earned her fourth shutout of the season. Barnes scored for the sixth match in a row and leads the team with seven goals.

The teams square off again on Tuesday, at opposite sites.
