SV tennis return returns to action at 10-0

Spring Valley’s unbeaten boys tennis team returns to action this week after spring break with a 10-0 record.

The power Vikings, who lost to eventual Class 4A state champion West Florence in the Lower State championship match last spring, is cruising toward the Region 4-4A title and a top seed in the Upper State playoffs.

Various Vikings players have combined for a 57-3 individual record to date. Ashkon Babaee is 7-1 at No. 1 singles, losing only to unbeaten Lexington ace Gordan Lucas just prior to spring break. Brent Lett, Kenan Sakarcan and Connor Burke, meanwhile, are all undefeated in singles play and none of the three has lost a single set. Lett is 8-0, primarily at No. 2 singles, Sakarcan is 8-0 at 3-4 singles and Burke is 9-0 pl;aying at the No. 2, 4 and 5 singles spots in the lineup.

Hampton Drake (6-2), Nick Nishnic (4-0) and Trey Finch (3-0) have all done well in singles action.

Veteran Joe Cunningham is unbeaten in doubles (9-0) playing with a variety of partners. Cunningham and Finch, the top duo, is 6-0.
