Lady Bearcat Invitational begins today at B-C

The 6th annual Lady Bearcat Invitational girls soccer tournament begins today at Brookland-Cayce. The eight-team, straight bracket play affair features the host Bearcats, A.C. Flora, Eau Claire, Academic Magnet, Pinewood Prep. Stratford, Woodbridge College (Toronto, Ontario) and Woodruff.

Today’s first-round matches include Eau Claire vs. Woodbridge (4 p.m.), Brookland-Cayce vs. Pinewood Prep (5:30 p.m.), Academic Magnet vs. Woodruff (7 p.m.) and A.C. Flora vs. Stratford (8:30 p.m.).

Consolation matches on Saturday are at 8:30 and 10 a.m. with the semifinals at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Final place matches start at 3 p.m. with the championship contest set for 7:30 p.m.

The Bearcats enter the tournament fresh from a 1-0 upset win over Class 3A second-ranked South Aiken on Tuesday. B-C is 5-4-1 overall, 2-3 in Region 5-3A.

Kimmy Batson scored the game-winning goal vs. South Aiken. Batson has four goals to date, and shares the team lead with Sarah Johnson and Nellie Phillips.

A.C. Flora (4-6) has not played since defeating Heathwood Hall 4-2 on April 2.
