Dreher ended region play last night in a convincing fashion against Swansea, posting an 8-3 win behind junior Bud Jeter’s arm. The Blue Devils now sit back and wait on region foes South Aiken and Brookland-Cayce to complete their games to determine seeding for the playoffs. Dreher finished the region 5-3A season with a 7-3 record.
Dreher’s strength all season came into play again last night behind the right arm of Bud Jeter. The Blue Devil hurler scattered 4 hits over 7 innings with 8 strikeouts. Jeter’s only trouble came in the third inning when with bases loaded he issued a walk and a single to give Swansea their only runs of the night. In the seventh inning Swansea loaded the bases only to end the threat on a weak grounder back to Jeter who easily threw the batter out at first.
Dreher struck quickly in the game when in the first inning Jeter lead off with a double and Shortstop Kurt Stoudenmire singled to bring him in. Stoudenmire also scored in the inning on a sacrifice fly by first baseman Woody Horn. Dreher kept up the scoring in the second inning after Michael O’Neal was hit by a pitch. Jeter again doubled and Stoudenmire drove them in singling to left center. After Chandler Knox singled and Horn walked to load the bases Alex Wilcox walked to drive in Dreher’s fifth run. The Blue Devils added two more runs in the fourth after Stoudenmire and Knox reached, Horn drove them in with a single to center that got by the centerfielder. Dreher ended the scoring in the fifth as Stoudenmire singled to drive in O’Neal.
For Dreher now it’s just a waiting game to find out where they will be seeded in the State Playoffs. In the meantime the Blue Devils will play Lower Richland on Thursday to end the regular season.
