Due to a pair of rainouts with South Pointe earlier in the season, the RidgeView Blazers travelled to South Pointe to take on the Stallions for a Region4-4A double-header (5-innings each) on Monday, 4/20/09. The Blazers came intothese games with a 1-5 Region record, 5-14 overall, needing to win both tostay in playoff contention during the final week of the regular season.
Game 1:The Blazers took an early lead, scoring 4 runs in the top of the 1st inning, using a leadoff infield single from junior SS Megan Woodall, a 2-rbi single upthe middle from freshman catcher Katelyn Smith, and 3 Stallion errors to takea 4-0 lead. South Pointe picked up a run in their half of the first on a pairof hits, but the Blazers answered in the top of the 2nd scoring 4 more runs togo up 8-1. A 2-rbi single over second from freshman 3B Tre Medlin, anrbi-single through the middle for junior LF Kaitlyn McCormick, an infieldsingle from junior 1B Stephanie Sweatman, and 3 more South Pointe errors leadto the 4 runs. Game 2:The Blazers put this one out of reach early, scoring 11 runs in the firstinning. A bases-loaded 2-rbi line drive single to left by senior RF ShatoyaWhite, which got by the left fielder clearing the bases and landing White atthird was the big hit of the inning. Stephanie Sweatman added a looper overthird for an rbi-single for the only 2 hits in the inning. Ten walks, a hitbatter, and 2 South Pointe errors were the big contributors to the 11-runfirst inning outburst for the Blazers (and the need for new pencils for thescorebook). The big story of the game however, was the pitching of juniorBrooke Dimock. Dimock, who also got the decision in the preceeding game, tossed a 5-inning perfect game (15 batters faced and retired). Never allowinga ball out of the infield, Dimock collected 6 strikeouts, and induced 9groundball outs, with the infield defense making the plays behind her.Dimock, in an effort to increase her parents' heart rate, went 3-2 on thefinal hitter in the 5th, before getting the final out of the game on astrikeout.
