RV nips Stallions to clinch at least a share of 4-4A title

Ridge View earned at least a share of the Region 4-4A baseball championship on Thursday, downing South Pointe 5-4 in nine innings. The Blazers closed the region campaign at 8-2, but must wait for the outcome of tonight’s Blythewood at Rock Hill game that will set the final order of finish.

If Blythewood wins, Ridge View is the outright region champion and the No. 1 seed in the Class 4A state playoffs. If Rick Hill wins, the Bearcats will share region honors with the Blazers and likely will have the tie-breaking edge for the No. 1 seed.

Andrew Hill’s two-out triple scored Richard Crisostomo with the game-winning run in the top of the ninth inning. Julio Iglesias had a 4-for-4 night at the plate for RV. Scott Baldwin pitched eight innings to get the win. Sophomore Edwin Griffin picked up the save with a perfect inning of relief in the bottom of the ninth.

Blythewood (15-8, 6-3) and Spring Valley (10-11, 5-4) are assured of playoff entry, no matter the outcome of Friday’s games. Spring Valley closes out the region campaign at home against South Pointe.
