Lexington’s young, inexperienced girls soccer team took some time to gel, but in the end the Wildcats put together a very solid season in 2009. Chris Fryland’s team end with a 13-10 overall record, finished in third place in tough Region 5-4A and rolled all the way to the third round of the Class 4A state playoff before being eliminated by eventual state runner-up Wando.
“After graduating 12 players from the year before, we knew it would take sometime for this team to blend, but everything peaked just at the right time,” said Fryland. “With hard work and a lot of young talent returning, we should challenge for the region title (in 2010).”
Ceci Wyrick, Deidre Ball and team scoring leader Taylor Piorkowski were Lexington’s all-region selections.
Ball was named the team MVP, Daniele Calarie was named the most improved player this season and Allie Edens received the team dedication award.
