Ben Lippen notes: The Falcons will be looking to improve to 4-0 when they head to Summerville on Friday for its third road game of the season. Ben Lippen scored its second win of the season against a High School League team last week, downing Lewisville in Richburg 27-13. The Falcons opened the season with a 10-7 win over Bishop England on Daniel Island … BL trailed 13-7 at halftime, but turned things around quickly after the break when Andre Hennie picked off a Lions pass and returned it for a touchdown. The Falcons attack then scored on its first two possession of the third quarter, courtesy of a 33-yard scoring run by quarterback Joey Carter and a 24-yard scoring pass from Carter to Jason Blackwell … Carter accounted for the bulk of BL’s 287 offensive yards. The senior star had 185 yards passing and led the team in rushing with 57 yards. For the season, Carter is 57-for-98 passing for 792 yards and eight touchdowns. Three of his four interceptions came last week at Lewisville. Taylor Wilson and Ross Fleming have been Carter’s top targets. Wilson has 21 catches for 249 yards and three TDs, while Fleming has 16 receptions for 276 yards and three scores. William Fant leads the running game with 152 yards and one TD on 29 totes … The top hit men on defense are Gabe Smith (26 tackles), Jason Blackwell (22), Tuck Benefield (22), Wilson (20) and Jimmy Carlen (17). The Falcons already have 17 sacks on the books. Zack Perry and Jonathan Nahlen have four apiece and Sammy Jo White has three. Hennie has two of BL’s five interceptions.
Pinewood Prep notes: The Panthers, fresh from their most successful season in history (8-4), entered the 2009 season ranked No. 2 in SCISA behind three-time defending champion Hammond. But Pinewood is off to a disappointing start. The Panthers laid an egg in a 26-7 season-opening loss at home to Hammond, and struggled to beat Class 2A Colleton Prep, 21-20, last week in Walterboro ... But as long as senior Bruce Haynes is healthy, Pinewood is a threat.
