Chapin notes: The Eagles are off to a 2-0 start under new coach Scott Early, upsetting Strom Thurmond in Week 0 and then coming off a bye last week to hammer Brookland-Cayce … Chapin rolled up 443 yards in the romp over the Bearcats, the bulk coming on the passing of Michael Weimer. The new quarterback connected on 10 of 16 throws for 248 yards and four touchdowns. In all, the Eagles had 301 yards through the air as backup Cole Morris also got into the act. Joe Rister led the receiving parade with three catches for 105 yards and two TDs. Conner Lowder had four receptions for 92 yards and one score, while Victor Frick turned three catches into 51 yards and one TD. Josh Sanga was the ground option, running for 116 yards on just 12 carries … The defense limited B-C to 6y8 yards rushing and 68 passing. Chase Austin and Tony Downs had nine tackles apiece. Austin, Ryan Elliott and Mason Zandi had sacks.
Gilbert notes: Like Chapin, Gilbert is off to a 2-0 start and had a Week 1 bye. The Indians returned to action last week and whipped up on neighboring Pelion, 33-7 ... As the case in Chapin’s win last week, Gilbert’s 317-yard production was heavily slanted to the passing game. Quarterback Connor Owings went 11-for-25 for 214 yards and four touchdowns. Matt Stegall had three catches for 43 yards and two tallies. Dylan Skinner had five grabs, good for 80 yards and one TD. Michael Robinson had the other scoring catch. Clark Mathias had 83 yards rushing and one \score on 15 carries … Hunter Wright led the hit parade on defense with 14 tackles, nine of them unassisted. Mike Morrison had 13 stops, and one fumble recovery.
Series history: The series has enjoyed an uninterrupted runs since its 1982 debut. Chapin has pretty much had its way though the years. The Eagles have won seven in a row and enjoy an overall 19-8 advantage.
