Midlands roundup: Chapin stays unbeaten

AtNewberry, Chapin secured its first win against Newberry in 20 years.

The Bulldogs racked up 288 rushing yards on 43 carries. The Bulldogs' Marcus McMorris had 130 yards and one score on eight carries. Matthew Hood-Pittenger had four carries for 59 yards.

The Eagles' Victor Frick had four carries for 54 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Michael Weimer was 12-for-22 for 138 yards.

Newberry (2-2) will play against next week. Chapin (4-0) will play host to Mid-Carolina.

At Dutch Fork, Brandon Wilds rushed for 185 yards as Blythewood edged the Silver Foxes (1-3).

Brandon Quattlebaum had an outstanding performance in the loss for Dutch Fork, accounting for 272 yards of total offense. He rushed for 141 yards, caught seven passes for 108 yards and completed a pass for 23 yards.

But Wilds and quarterback Danny Young made the difference for the Bengals (4-1). Young completed 11 of 19 passes for 124 yards and three touchdowns.

At Hopkins, quarterback W.T. Murden led the Eagles (4-0), completing 13 of 25 passes for 183 yards and three touchdowns, and rushing 16 times for 148 yards.

Running back Ryan Smith added 18 carries for 124 yards, one rushing touchdown and one receiving touchdown.

At Sumter, Gamecocks quarterback Stephen Curtis completed 10 of 14 for 187 yards and four touchdown passes.

Sumter's Tyler Smith caught three passes for 128 yards and three touchdowns.

The Gamecocks totaled 177 yards rushing on 22 attempts, with Romaine Prince leading the way with 10 rushes for 72 yards. Curtis ran seven times for 40 yards and a touchdown.

Sumter (2-2) will play host to Greenwood next week. White Knoll (1-3) will play host to Richland Northeast.

At Swansea, Scott's Branch jumpd to a 28-21 haltime lead and held on for the win.

Ja'Quan Sutton had 25 carries for 133 yards and one touchdown to lead Swansea. He also returned a kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown. Joseph Williams added eight carries for 88 yards and one touchdown.

Dominique Brooks added two receptions for 41 yards and one touchdown for the Tigers. Matt Rabon had 14 tackles, and Willum Gerritts kicked five extra points.

Swansea (1-2) will travel to Gilbert next Friday. Scott's Branch improved advanced to 1-2.

At Saluda, Walhalla converted a fourth-down run in the second overtime period to win the game. Josh Sharpe rushed for 123 yards on 31 carries, including the game-winner.

The loss dropped the Tigers to 1-3, Walhalla improved to 3-1.

Joseph Morgan led the Griffins in rushing with 10 carries for 105 yards and one touchdown. Chris Austin had five receptions for 67 yards and one touchdown.

Fairfield Central's Fred Stevenson blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown.

The Griffins had 434 offensive yards and held Grovetown (3-2) to 67.

Ross Cooper led Fairfield's defense with 12 tackles.
