Preview: Porter-Gaud at Cardinal Newman

Porter-Gaud notes: The Cyclones great start under first-year coach Rick Reetz came to a screeching halt last week in a 45-7 home loss to three-time SCISA champion Hammond … P-G (3-2) managed just 169 yards on offense against the Skyhawks … Quarterback Hudson Worthy, receiver Stanton Seckinger and running back George Campsen are the Cyclones top offensive threats.

Cardinal Newman notes: The Cardinals (1-3) return to action this week at home against Porter-Gaud in good frame of mind. After starting the season with no touchdowns in losses to Christ School and Wilson Hall, CN’s new double wing offense has been producing good results … Joey DeAngelis ran for 265 yards and one touchdown and Stiles Monteith added 332 yards and one score in a 28-14 loss to Bishop England on Sept. 11. DeAngelis had 74 yards and three TDs and Monteith added 66 yards and one TD in a 28-10 conquest of Florence Christian for the team’s first win of the season … The Cards finished with 313 yards rushing vs. BE and rolled up for 223 on the ground against FC … To date, DeAngelis has 461 yards and four TDs on 81 carries, while Monteith has 133 yards and two scores in three games in the backfield … Rico Martinez and Monteith are the team tackle leaders with 41 and 33 stops, respectively. Monteith shares the team sack lead with P.A. Reed with three, and Martinez is credited with 2.5 sacks. Martinez also has two fumble recoveries.
