Augusta Christian notes: The rebuilding Lions suffered their first loss in five outings last week, dropping a 42-20 decision to Ben Lippen in the SCISA Region 1-3A opener for both teams … The AC defense was hit for 434 total offensive yards.

Heathwood Hall notes: Another week, another win, another big performance by quarterback Mac Whalen, another outstanding performance by the defensive unit … The beat goes on for the unbeaten, highly motivated Highlands, who traveled to Sumter last week and came home with a solid 26-6 win over Wilson Hall. On the attack, HH posted 160 yards rushing, 164 passing. On defense, Alec Gregg had his second two-interception game in three weeks. In all the Highlanders had seven takeaways – swiping four Barons passes, recovering three fumbles … Whalen continued his stellar production. The senior star ran for 119 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries and was 13-for-26 passing for 164 yards. Ironically, Whalen has yet to throw a touchdown pass. Otherwise, Benji Stern had five catches for 60 yards, Morgan Whalen had four receptions for 52 yards and Walker Sojourner had two scoring runs … Mac Whalen now has 725 yards and 14 TDs by land, 657 yards by air. Morgan Whalen (18-248), Stern (16-165) and Will Dubose (12-92) are the top receivers. Sojourner has the big numbers on defense with 59 tackles and six sacks. Morgan Whalen (48) and Will Cloyd (40) are next on the HH hit list.

Series history: The Highlanders won the first three times the schools met, but the Lions have since won two in a row including last season’s 35-31 thriller in Georgia.
