South Aiken notes: The Thoroughbreds (3-5, 2-1) can wrap up a state playoff berth with a win, and go into its Week 10 battle with Midland Valley with a shot at a second-place finish in Region 5-3A and a home date in the first round of the postseason … SA gave unbeaten Airport a good go last week – for one half, anyway. The T-breds trailed the mighty Eagles just 21-17 at halftime, but were blow away by a 21-0 Aiport burst in the third quarter. In the end, the Eagles prevailed 56-24 … SA put up 242 rushing yards on the Airport defense. Chris Johnson’s 117 yards on 21 carries led the way. Johnson is the key back in the Thoroughbreds run-oriented attack.
Swansea notes: The Tigers (2-6, 1-2) are looking to end a two-game losing streak after opening the 5-3A campaign with a win over Brookland-Cayce. No matter the outcome this week, Swansea’s playoff chances will hinge on the outcome of its game against Dreher in Week 10 … Swansea’s offense begins and end with Ja’Quan Sutton, who has run for 1,103 yards and seven touchdowns on 205 carries … The Tigers defensive stalwarts include L.A. McKnight (55 tackles), Matt Rabon (60 tackles), Byron Johnson (4 sacks) and Dalton Reynolds, who has returned both of his interceptions for touchdowns.
